I have always wanted to create something of genuine meaning so when the idea for Tea and Cake came to me i was determined to make it happen. I knew wanted to create an online magazine, however something had to make this project different from the rest. Although the glamorous, idealistic culture of magazines is fascinating, it can also be extremely damaging to those who don't see themselves represented on the pages.
I believe that representation is essential for everyone, so am determined to share experiences from the widest range of people possible, emphasising the importance and beauty of 'everyday life'. I don't agree that the lives of celebrities and models are the only people who's experiences need to be heard. I think that regular people in regular homes with regular struggles want to hear from people like them. That's what is inspirational, for me at least.
Below if a picture of me, if you want to know what i look like. I am sixteen year old student from the UK who has no experience in managing a project like this. And to make things even harder this is a solo project, which with minimal time and on a minimal budget is going to be a huge challenge. But i am truly determined to make it happen. I realise that growth will be slow, as everyone is trying to make it big online. But that honestly isn't what is important to me. As long as I can provide a platform and and safe space for people to share their lessons, experiences and art, i have succeeded in my mission.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about Tea and Cake, I really hope you will be back soon. If you would like to see regular updates or would like to submit something, head over to @teaandcakemag on insta and leave a message.
Lots of love,
Poppy @ Tea and Cake
